What Are Cosmetic Veneers
Upon hearing the word
cosmetic dentistry, or the field of dentistry
concerned with the exterior part of teeth, most
people instantly think of braces. However, there are
other items and appliances which are now being used
by dentists in enhancing the visual aspect of the
teeth of a person. Cosmetic veneers are good
examples of the said items.
What are cosmetic veneers? Veneers are thin facings
made of porcelain or other materials. Dentists bond
these thing facings with the frontal surface of
teeth which can be seen from the outside. The actual
appearance of a cosmetic veneer is comparable to an
artificial fingernail. Although most of the time,
veneers are made out of porcelain, they can be
composed of plastic and acrylic too.
With regard to the general procedure of making a
veneer, the dentist first has to trim down the
frontal surface of the tooth which is to be
veneered. Next he will make an impression of the
trimmed tooth. The impression will then be delivered
to a selected dental technician. The technician will
be the one who will develop the porcelain veneer
based on the given impression. In the event wherein
the trimmed tooth is relatively sensitive, a
provisional plastic veneer must be placed on the
trimmed tooth while waiting for the actual veneer to
be created.
Lastly, cosmetic veneers can greatly improve the way
teeth look. They can modify the shape, size, and
color of teeth, making them look more uniform.
Moreover, teeth can appear whiter through the use of
cosmetic veneers, and because veneers are clear,
they can barely be seen by other people. |
